Unlike other flashcard apps, Mentis strictly follows the SM-2 algorithm without modifications or shortcuts. We blur mature cards to prevent accidental previews that would compromise your progress. We offer complete transparency—you see your ease factor, intervals, and mastery scores. We also give you control over AI models (choose from 3 different models), full CSV import/export, advanced version control for decks, and a community-driven deck ecosystem with proper attribution chains. Strict Mode is our default study mode that follows the SM-2 algorithm exactly as designed. When cards reach 30% mastery (typically around 9 days of study), they're automatically blurred to prevent you from accidentally seeing them before your scheduled review. This protects the integrity of the algorithm—if you peek at a card early, it compromises your progress tracking. Strict Mode is also required for leaderboard eligibility, ensuring fair competition. You can switch to Non-Strict Mode if you want access to all cards anytime, but you'll lose leaderboard eligibility.

Each model has different costs (GPT-4.1 Nano is $0.20 per 1M input tokens, GPT-5 Mini is $0.25 per 1M input tokens, GPT-5.2 is $1.75 per 1M input tokens). Before any AI operation, Mentis shows you the estimated credit cost so you can make an informed decision. Free users get 350,000 credits weekly, Pro users get 2,500,000 weekly, and Premium users get 10,000,000 weekly. Credits reset every week, and you can purchase additional credits that never expire. There are no hidden costs—you see exactly what you're paying for.
Yes! Mentis supports CSV import for up to 500 cards at once (Free), 2,500 (Pro), or 10,000 (Premium). You can map fields from your CSV to Mentis's structure (front, back, and 4 custom fields). We also support PDF import—upload a PDF (up to 5MB Free, 50MB Pro, 250MB Premium) and AI will generate flashcards from it. You can also paste text (up to 20,000 characters) for AI card generation. Export your decks at any time to CSV (all tiers) or JSON format (Pro+).

When you subscribe to a public deck, you get your own copy to study. When the original creator pushes an update, you receive a notification. You can then preview the changes and choose to accept (which updates your copy) or decline (which keeps your current version). Deck creators can publish updates with changelogs, and subscribers decide when to update. For topics (collections of decks), the same system works at a higher level. This ensures you always control what you study while staying connected to the latest content.
Absolutely! Mentis has extensive group features. Create a group for your class, study group, or family. Groups can have public or private visibility, live chat, shared decks, group leaderboards, and role-based permissions (Owner, Admin, Member). Admins can manage content and edit group decks, while members can study all shared content. Public groups allow anyone to join instantly, while private groups require admin approval via invite code. Free users can join 2 groups, Pro users can create 5 groups (25 members each), and Premium users can create 25 groups with up to 200 members each.

There are four types: Deck Leaderboards (per-deck mastery ranking), Group Leaderboards (within-group competition), Topic Leaderboards (aggregate across a topic's decks), and Global Leaderboards (3 categories: cards mastered, achievement points, and study streak across 4 time periods: daily, weekly, monthly, all-time). To ensure fairness, only users in Strict Mode can compete on study leaderboards. You can opt out of leaderboards in your privacy settings.
Yes. Mentis is fully GDPR compliant. Your private decks are only visible to you unless you explicitly share them. You can export all your data at any time, and you can permanently delete your account if you choose. We use industry-standard encryption for passwords and sensitive data, JWT tokens for authentication, and refresh tokens stored securely. We never sell your data to third parties.
Yes, you can cancel anytime with no penalties. If you cancel, you'll retain Pro/Premium access until the end of your billing period, then automatically revert to the Free tier. Your decks and progress are never deleted—you'll just be subject to Free tier limits (20 decks, 500 cards each, 350,000 AI credits/week). You can resubscribe at any time to regain full access.
